Chinese Children Visa Born in the US/CN

If you plan to work in mainland China, you will need to apply for a work visa (Z Visa). Here is a list of materials you should prepare, ensuring that these documents are printed or photocopied on standard letter-size paper:

1. Original passport: Please ensure your passport is valid for more than six months and has at least two blank visa pages.

2. Photocopy of passport information: You need a photocopy of the personal information page of your passport. If there are extension pages, they also need to be photocopied.

3. Visa application form: Please fill out the “Visa Application Form of the People’s Republic of China” on the computer, print it, and sign it. You also need to make an online appointment to process it.

4. Recent photo: Provide a photo taken within the last six months.

5. Work permit proof: You need one of the following documents:

  • Original and photocopy of the “Foreigner’s Work Permit of the People’s Republic of China” issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. If the work period does not exceed 90 days, also provide the “Foreigner’s Short-term Work Certificate in China”.
  • Printed copy of the “Foreign Experts Work Permit” or “Notification of Work Permit for Foreigners in the People’s Republic of China” issued by the Bureau of Foreign Experts Affairs.
  •  “Invitation Letter for Foreigners to Engage in Offshore Petroleum Operations in the People’s Republic of China” issued by China National Offshore Oil Corporation.
  • “Registration Certificate of Permanent Representative Offices of Foreign (Regional) Enterprises” issued by the administrative department for industry and commerce.
  • Commercial performance license issued by the administrative department of culture (only applicable to applicants coming to China for commercial performances). If the performance period does not exceed 90 days, also provide the “Foreigner’s Short-term Work Certificate in China”.

7. Non-U.S. citizens applying: You need to provide the original and a photocopy of your permanent resident card, work permit, study permit, or other residency proof in the United States.

8. Former Chinese nationals who later acquired foreign nationality:

  • If this is your first time applying for a Chinese visa, you need to provide the original of your most recent Chinese passport and photocopy the Chinese passport’s information page and current U.S. passport’s information page side by side on the same paper, two copies in total; as well as the original and photocopy of your U.S. citizen card.
  • If you have obtained a Chinese visa before and are applying for a visa with a newly issued foreign passport, you need to provide photocopies of the original passport photo page and the obtained Chinese visa. If the names on the new and old passports are different, you also need to provide an official document proving the name change.

9. Chinese youth under 18 years old applying: Please refer to the additional document requirements.
